Wealth distribution and aggregate time-preference: Markov-perfect equilibria in a Ramsey economy

چکیده
We study Markov-perfect Nash equilibria (MPNE) of a Ramsey-Cass-Koopmans economy in which households are aware of their influence on prices. The Ramsey conjecture fails to hold such that households other than the most patient one own positive wealth in the steady state. This confirms results that have been derived in the same model using an openloop equilibrium concept. In contrast to the competitive and the open-loop equilibrium, the steady state of the MPNE depends on the utility functions of the households. Since the MPNE cannot be determined analytically, a high-order least squares projection method is employed. Journal of Economic Literature classification codes: C63, C73, D31, O41

Stationary Equilibria of Economies with a Continuum of Heterogeneous Consumers
This paper studies stationary equilibria of a production economy with a continuum of heterogeneous consumers subject to borrowing constraints and individual Markov endowment shocks. The existence of a stationary equilibrium is established. The equilibrium interest rate is less than the rate of time preference of the most patient consumer provided a constraint that restricts the borrowing limit ...

This paper studies optimal monetary and fiscal policy in a stochastic economy with sticky prices and monopolistic competition on its product markets. Our main objective is to characterize optimal time-consistent (Markov) policies and to compare their characteristics to the ones implemented by a Ramsey policy maker. We perform this comparison within the framework of a stochastic production econo...
متن کاملIndustry Dynamics: From Elemental to Aggregate Models
Elemental models of the form pioneered by Ericson and Pakes (1995) capture the dynamics of a finite number of heterogeneous firms as they compete in an industry. Available algorithms can determine Markov perfect equilibrium behavior, though computational requirements become onerous when there are more than a few incumbent firms. Aggregate models of the form pioneered by Hopenhayn (1992), on the...
متن کاملThe political economy of labor subsidies
We explore a political-economy model of labor subsidies, extending Meltzer and Richard’s median-voter model to a dynamic setting. We explore only one source of heterogeneity: initial wealth. As a consequence, given an operative wealth effect, poorer agents work harder, and if the agent with median wealth is poorer than average, a politico-economic equilibrium will feature a subsidy to labor. Th...
متن کاملStationary Markov perfect equilibria in risk sensitive stochastic overlapping generations models
In this paper, we study intergenerational stochastic games that can be viewed as a special class of overlapping generations models under uncertainty. Making use of the theorem of Dvoretzky, Wald and Wolfowitz [27] from the statistical decision theory, we obtain new results on stationary Markov perfect equilibria for the aforementioned games, with a general state space, satisfying rather mild co...
